LDS SINGLES DATING
LDS singles dating
sites are just one example of “niche” dating – sites
that offer a database of people with very specific beliefs and/or interests.
Because their religion is more of a lifestyle than just going to church
on Sundays, LDS people generally want to marry other LDS people. Sometimes
it can be difficult to track down the eligible people of your particular
faith, whether you are LDS, Catholic, Jewish, or any other religion.
For LDS people, the ultimate end and purpose of dating is marriage.
LDS people are encouraged to think about the qualities they want in
an eternal partner and date accordingly. After all, in the Church of
Latter Day Saints, you are married for time and all eternity.
Following are some generally accepted dating “rules” followed
by LDS singles:
• Age 16 is the generally acceptable age to start dating. Thirteen,
a common age within other communities to start dating, is deemed a
little too young for the LDS.
• Keep dating light and fun while. Dating is the time to get
an idea of what you are looking for in a partner. Don’t get
too serious right off the bat – more likely than not, your soul
mate will not be the first, or even the second or eighth person you
date.
• In the LDS mindset, serious dating for men begins after serving
their LDS mission. For women, more serious dating can begin after
high school.
• The point of an LDS single dating another LDS single is to
date people with your same high standards for life and eternity. Don’t
expect to be able to change anyone.
• Dates at wholesome places – the zoo, restaurants, amusement
parks, picnics, hikes, etc. Be creative: you won’t learn too
much about a person if you simply take him or her to the movies.
• Go on group dates with other likeminded singles. Group dates
are a non-threatening way to meet new people. In a group date setting,
there are plenty of ready-made chaperones.
• Remain chaste – avoid risky situations such as being
alone with your date late at night.
No heavy petting (“petting” is anything that increases
sexual excitement). As a general rule, no touching above the knees
or below the shoulders. Hugs, holding hands, and arms around the waist
are generally acceptable. Use your own discretion.
• No passionate kissing. A short kiss, without the use of tongues,
is all that is necessary.
